Baiba Skride is an internationally renowned violinist who has worked with the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony and NHK Symphony.

Orfeo have released a number of discs featuring her playing - and she's nominated for a BBC Music Magazine award this year, too.

To Gramophone magazine, she’s “the complete violinist, with an exceptionally precise, reliable technique, splendid tone and presence, and discerning musicianship, who makes the quietest moments tell.” To the CBSO, however, the Latvian violin virtuoso is quite simply one of the family – an old school friend of Andris Nelsons, and one of our best-loved regular guest artists, for audience and orchestra alike.

So this season, we’ve invited her to be our Artist in Residence, and she’ll be playing chamber music, chatting pre-concert and – of course – giving simply glorious performances of concertos by Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Szymanowski.
