Baiba Skride is an internationally renowned violinist who has worked with the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony and NHK Symphony.

To Gramophone magazine, she’s “the complete violinist, with an exceptionally precise, reliable technique, splendid tone and presence, and discerning musicianship, who makes the quietest moments tell.” To the CBSO, however, the Latvian violin virtuoso is quite simply one of the family – an old school friend of Andris Nelsons, and one of our best-loved regular guest artists, for audience and orchestra alike.

In our 2015-16 season she was playing chamber music, chatting pre-concert and – of course – giving simply glorious performances of concertos by Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Szymanowski.

"What Birmingham has to offer culturally is amazing, and the centre is a nice place to walk around at night and have a beer"
