Over the 2022 Spring term, 8 Primary Schools across Birmingham took part in our creative project entitled Myths and Legends. The pupils enjoyed a live City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra ensemble visit, creative music workshops and visual arts workshops, which culminated in the creation of new, exciting compositions and artwork.
Aimed at Key Stage 2, the project began with a CBSO String or Woodwind Trio performance, which acted as the inspiration for the creative workshops. In addition to this, each school was also invited to the CBSO Family Concert – an opportunity to watch to the full-scale symphony orchestra in the spectacular Symphony Hall Birmingham.
Over the Spring term, pupils from each school then worked with 2 CBSO musicians to create new compositions based on the Myths and Legends theme. During the final music workshop, each composition was recorded by the CBSO Learning & Participation team and edited by a professional sound engineer.
Alongside this, each school also had the opportunity to create a piece of artwork with Birmingham based artists Benny Semp and Ning-Ning Li. The photos of the artwork, along with the musical recordings are available to view and listen to on the online gallery below.
Congratulations to all 8 schools involved on their fantastic compositions and artwork! Enjoy browsing through the CBSO gallery and sharing the link with your families and friends.
