The CBSO’s offer for special schools provides access to performances and creative activities designed specifically for SEND pupils.
The CBSO has worked with SEND pupils for many years, building skills and expertise amongst our musicians to deliver interactive performances in school, one off creative workshop activities and residency programmes.
Since 2015 we also provide annual Relaxed Concerts at the CBSO Centre enabling special school pupils to experience a mini-orchestra in a supported and accessible environment, all led by an experienced CBSO presenter.
In 2017 we were awarded a grant from Youth Music to further develop our Music & Ability programme in three special schools over two years. This programme will not only enable us to further develop our delivery models for special schools, but will also provide additional training for our musicians ensuring that we are delivering high quality creative activities that support the musical, personal and social development of SEND pupils.
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra is proud to be working in partnership with schools and settings on their Artsmark Award journey. By supporting Artsmark settings, we're helping put the arts at the heart of education, inspiring young people to create, experience and participate in high quality arts and culture.

As an Arts Award Support and Arts Award Centre, the CBSO's activities can also contribute to a young person's achievement of an Arts Award.
