Beethoven’S Violin Concerto.

  • Prokofiev The Love for Three Oranges: Suite15′
  • Beethoven Violin Concerto42′
  • Vaughan Williams Symphony No. 434′

Forget everything you thought you knew about English music, because Vaughan Williams’ Fourth Symphony is the white-hot vision of an angry prophet. It shocked audiences in 1935 and it’s every bit as gripping today. It’s hard to think of a more perfect contrast than Beethoven’s radiant Violin Concerto: deep serenity and endless song, played today by Augustin Hadelich – Musical America’s 2018 “Instrumentalist of the Year”.

CBSO+ 6.15pm: CBSO Chief Executive Stephen Maddock OBE is joined by members of the CBSO to talk through this evening’s programme.
