  • Schubert Quartettsatz in C minor
  • Gade Octet in F, Op. 17
  • Shostakovich Two Pieces for string octet

Sometimes first thoughts are the best. Schubert’s Quartettsatz and Shostakovich’s Two Pieces are just tastes of something bigger, but they’re each like concentrated shots of intense emotion. Together, they make a perfect setting for the joyous, exuberantly romantic String Octet by the neglected Danish composer Niels Gade. He was great friends with Mendelssohn, and believe us – you can really tell!
