  • Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 123′
  • Schubert Symphony No 4 (Tragic)30′

You might have already heard about the CBSO’s recordings of Schubert’s symphonies, conducted by Edward Gardner – because the critics have loved them. “Incredibly beautiful” said BBC Music Magazine. Gramophone went even further: “the music darts and skips with youthful abandon”. Now Birmingham gets to experience it live, as Gardner and the orchestra launch themselves headfirst into the stormy emotions and irresistible melodies of Schubert’s Fourth (and most impetuous) symphony. First, though, Master of the Queen’s Music and former CBSO Associate Composer Judith Weir pays colourful homage to the paintings of Paul Klee, and violinist Alina Ibragimova weaves her spell in Prokofiev’s fairytale First Violin Concerto. Sheer sonic enchantment.

Your safety at the CBSO's concerts
We care deeply about our customers, and that's why the CBSO is working closely with Symphony Hall to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience. You can read about all the new measures in place to help keep you safe on the Symphony Hall's wesbite by clicking here.

On sale information
We’re delighted to have live performances on sale and can’t wait to welcome audiences back to Symphony Hall. However, please note that tickets must be booked online as telephone and counter sales are currently unavailable, as the Symphony Hall Box Office team are still working from home.

A new acoustic screen has been installed at the rear of the Symphony Hall stage, allowing a larger number of musicians to sit on the flat stage and play together while maintaining social distancing than has previously been possible.  The view of the back of the stage from the Stalls will be slightly affected as a result: but it does mean that CBSO audiences will see and hear what we believe is the largest orchestra performing regularly anywhere in the UK at this time..

Government Restrictions: please note, this concert is being planned according to the latest Government guidelines and roadmap. Should the concert be unable to go ahead as live and is instead filmed, your ticket will be valid to watch the concert online. Refunds will also be available on request.
