- Copland Appalachian Spring: Suite, 24′
- Barber Violin Concerto, 25′
- Vaughan Williams A Pastoral Symphony, 35′
“Heartbreaking and sublime” was how one critic described the sound of John Wilson conducting Vaughan Williams with the CBSO. Now he returns, with the Pastoral Symphony – a haunted elegy to the Great War. This should be very special, but first Wilson crosses the Atlantic, and with James Ehnes as the soloist in Barber’s gorgeous Violin Concerto, the results will sound as fresh as a spring morning.
CBSO+ 1pm: Conductor John Wilson introduces this afternoon’s programme in conversation with CBSO Chief Executive Stephen Maddock OBE.
For events sold by THSH Box Office, the THSH per-ticket commission of £3 (£2.50 for online bookings) is included in the price of every individual ticket priced over £13. Tickets purchased as part of a CBSO Concert Package are exempt. For full details see cbso.co.uk/terms.
