‘Epic’ is a bit of an understatement when it comes to Mahler’s First Symphony...

The magical stillness that opens Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 could be the dawn of life, or of the world itself - either way, it unfolds gradually through tragedy and triumph, until it reaches an earth-shattering climax that will raise the roof. In the first half, Thomas Larcher’s Third Symphony tells a story of hope and agony, high in the Austrian mountains - this concert is going to be one hell of a journey – and maybe not for the faint-hearted!
