191107 Mendelssohns Elijah.

  • Mendelssohn Elijah 140′

“Is not His word like a fire?” Felix Mendelssohn was a friend of Queen Victoria, but there’s absolutely nothing Victorian about his “Elijah” – and when it was premiered in Birmingham Town Hall in August 1846, it caused a worldwide sensation. This rip-roaring Old Testament epic is a real Birmingham classic, and in the CBSO’s Centenary season Principal Guest Conductor Kazuki Yamada and four world-beating soloists bring it home tonight.
