16 March Sheku Km.

  • Tchaikovsky Swan Lake: Scene (Act 1)3′
  • Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 233′
  • Weinberg Symphony No. 333′

We are very sorry to announce that unfortunately, our Music Director and the Conductor of this evening’s performance, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, tested positive for covid this morning and has had to withdraw from the concert at extremely short notice.

We are grateful to Charlotte Politi, one of the CBSO's Assistant Conductors who will now conduct this concert and make her CBSO debut. Sheku Kanneh-Mason will appear as planned.

Regrettably, due to these very late changes, we have had to make an amendment to the original programme for this concert and Weinberg Symphony No. 4 will no longer be performed and we will instead perform the following repertoire:

Tchaikovsky Swan Lake: Scene (Act 1) 3’

Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2 33’

Weinberg Symphony No. 3 33’

"With Weinberg, each piece is just greater than the next" says Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, and her award-winning, critically-acclaimed exploration of this great 20th Century composer (and friend of Shostakovich) has been one of the supreme achievements of her time in Birmingham. Two gripping symphonies frame Shostakovich's powerful Second Cello Concert - and a welcome return for another great friend of the CBSO, Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
