Stephen Hough Plays Beethoven.

  • Tippett Concerto for Double String Orchestra 24′
  • Beethoven  Piano Concerto No. 4 34′
  • Schubert  Symphony No. 630′

“Abounding, generous, exuberant beauty.” That’s what Sir Michael Tippett set out to create – and it’s why his luminous Concerto for Double String Orchestra is such an inspired way to introduce the one-and-only Stephen Hough, in Beethoven’s most personal (and poetic) piano concerto. Edward Gardner conducts, and tops it all with Schubert’s irresistible Sixth Symphony. It’s champagne for the ears.

CBSO+ 20 June, 6.15pm: CBSO Chief Executive Stephen Maddock OBE is joined by conductor Edward Gardner to introduce and discuss tonight’s programme.
