Programme

  • Howells Rhapsodic Quintet (1919)
  • Ravel Sonata for Violin & Cello (1922)
  • Stravinsky Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet (1919)
  • Stravinsky Concertino (1920)

In 1920 the CBSO was founded, and 100 years on, here at CBSO Centre, we’re definitely not going to miss out on the celebrations. Today our brilliant young principal clarinet Oliver Janes and a quartet of CBSO string players explore the music of those pioneering years – from the Gloucestershire landscapes of Herbert Howells to the wit, satire and fantasy of Igor Stravinsky.
