Cbso At Snape Maltingd.

Programme

  • Britten  War Requiem 90′

For the first time Britten’s plea for peace and monument to the suffering of war is performed at Snape Maltings as part of the Aldeburgh Festival.

Britten’s life-long pacifism had been controversial in earlier decades, but by the early sixties his expression of deeply held humanitarian and internationalist beliefs provided solace and hope for a world still recovering from WWII’s unprecedented violence.

Snape Maltings is delighted to welcome Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla back to the festival to conduct an international cast of soloists and the CBSO, which premiered Britten’s masterpiece at the newly re-built Coventry Cathedral in May 1962.
