‘For our first visit to Cambridge in over seven years, we wanted to bring something brilliant and exciting that shows off the whole orchestra.  Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra does this superbly, and is one of the most thrilling rides in 20th century music.  Bartok was heavily influenced by folk music of his native Hungary, so we thought it would be fun to precede this with Bruch’s colourful Scottish Fantasy, which also plays around with folk tunes.’
