Programme

  • Elgar  The Dream of Gerontius 95′

“This is the best of me,” wrote Edward Elgar on the score of The Dream of Gerontius, and few have disagreed with his verdict. Elgar crafts this story of a lonely soul’s journey towards eternity in music of startling passion and heartbreaking beauty. The Oxford Bach Choir will be conducted by Benjamin Nicholas, accompanied by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and with soloists Ed Lyon (Tenor), Kathryn Rudge (Contralto) and Roderick Williams (Baritone), one of the choir's Vice-Presidents.
