- Weinberg Symphony No. 21 (UK premiere), 50′
- Shostakovich Symphony No. 15, 42′
Weinberg revered Shostakovich: “Although I never had lessons from him, I count myself as his pupil, his flesh and blood.” Their symphonies confront a dark century, whether Shostakovich’s haunted, enigmatic 15th, or Weinberg’s 21st and final symphony: a vast, uncompromisingly emotional meditation on the Jewish prayer for the dead. Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, the CBSO and Kremerata Baltica come together for a truly historic UK premiere.
CBSO+ 5.45pm: Join experts in Soviet Music, Professor David Fanning and Michelle Assay to talk us though the music of Weinberg and Shostakovich.
For events sold by THSH Box Office, the THSH per-ticket commission of £3 (£2.50 for online bookings) is included in the price of every individual ticket priced over £13. Tickets purchased as part of a CBSO Concert Package are exempt. For full details see cbso.co.uk/terms.
