  • Anderson Litanies20′ (CBSO Centenary Commission – UK Premiere)
  • Dvořák Symphony No. 7 40′

Love Dvořák’s “New World” symphony? Then why not try something a little stronger? Dvořák’s Seventh begins with a rumble of thunder, and ends in a shout of defiance; in between come summer storms, lilting dance tunes, and some of the sweetest, most heartfelt music in any great symphony. The CBSO’s Principal Guest Conductor Kazuki Yamada never stints on emotion; and it’s a perfectly-chosen complement to the UK premiere of the CBSO’s latest centenary commission – Litanies, a major new cello concerto from our former Composer in Association Julian Anderson. It’s Julian’s very personal tribute to a friend who died too young, and with the phenomenal Alban Gerhardt as soloist, we think it’s set to be an instant classic.

Your safety at the CBSO's concerts
We care deeply about our customers, and that's why the CBSO is working closely with Symphony Hall to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience. You can read about all the new measures in place to help keep you safe on the Symphony Hall's wesbite by clicking here.

On sale information
We’re delighted to have live performances on sale and can’t wait to welcome audiences back to Symphony Hall. However, please note that tickets must be booked online as telephone and counter sales are currently unavailable, as the Symphony Hall Box Office team are still working from home.

A new acoustic screen has been installed at the rear of the Symphony Hall stage, allowing a larger number of musicians to sit on the flat stage and play together while maintaining social distancing than has previously been possible.  The view of the back of the stage from the Stalls will be slightly affected as a result: but it does mean that CBSO audiences will see and hear what we believe is the largest orchestra performing regularly anywhere in the UK at this time.

Government Restrictions: please note, this concert is being planned according to the latest Government guidelines and roadmap. Should the concert be unable to go ahead as live and is instead filmed, your ticket will be valid to watch the concert online. Refunds will also be available on request.

For events sold by THSH Box Office, the THSH per-ticket commission of £3 is included in the price of every individual ticket priced over £13. For full details see cbso.co.uk/terms.
