Job description

The CBSO is seeking a violinist to sit No3 in the First Violin section including sitting up to no.2 and leading as required by invitation.

The CBSO offer a range of opportunities outside the main orchestra schedule which includes: participation and programming of Chamber Music through the musician-led CBSO Centre Stage Series; work across the CBSO’s Learning and Participation Programme: Stay Tuned (Schools Programme), Music & Ability (Disability Provision), Higher Education, Developing Talent, Families, Youth & Communities, Enrichment, Youth Orchestra and Choruses opportunities.

Candidates should ideally have experience of leading a Violin section and evidence through their CV of excellence in performance in a professional context. The CBSO will also consider candidates who are in the earlier stages of their career and can clearly demonstrate their potential to fulfil the role.

Essential skills

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Recent orchestral experience as a professional violinist
  • Demonstrate being able to lead as this may be required on occasion
  • Ability to work closely with other members of the section and the orchestra in a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivator and able to work under pressure
  • Ability to understand and to speak English

Desirable skills

  • Proven expertise in a broad range of musical and performance activities including education work and chamber music
  • Recent orchestral experience as First Violin sitting in a principal position.
  • Self-motivator and able to work under pressure
