Job description

The CBSO is seeking an Assistant Librarian to work alongside the Librarian in the music library and with the orchestra at rehearsals, concerts and recording sessions. The successful candidate will have a knowledge and love of classical music, experience at music preparation and excellent interpersonal skills. The role is two days a week and some flexibility over scheduling is required.

Essential skills

  •  A detailed knowledge of orchestral repertoire, with a passion for Classical music, and be familiar with the daily operational requirements of a symphony orchestra.
  • Excellent music preparation skills
  • The ability to score-read
  • The ability to transpose and write out orchestral parts
  • Excellent organisational skills, with strong attention to detail 
  • A hard worker who can work well under pressure, and think on your feet
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise with a wide variety of people at all levels
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to be self-motivated as well as the ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to work irregular and unsocial hours including evenings and weekends, as required by the orchestra schedule
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally as required by the orchestra schedule

Desirable skills

  • Degree in Music (or equivalent) would be desired but not essential
  • Knowledge of OPAS and Sibelius
  • A full clean driving license
