The CBSO Chorus is delighted to once again be offering up to 10 bursaries for tenors aged 18 - 30 for our forthcoming 2019-20 season. Bursaries are worth up to £1,000 over the season, and are intended to support young singer’s ongoing vocal development.
The CBSO Chorus is one of the world’s leading symphonic choruses, and membership of this ensemble will provide singers with world class choral training from our team of chorus directors, as well as opportunities to perform exciting and ambitious repertoire with internationally renowned conductors alongside the world-class CBSO, in amazing venues - at home and abroad.
The 2019-20 season marks the beginning of the CBSO’s Centenary celebrations, as we move towards our 100th Birthday in September 2020, and choral performances are at the heart of our programme for the year.
With performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Tippett’s A Child of Our Time, Brahms’ German Requiem and Britten’s War Requiem with our Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, in addition to Mendelssohn’s Elijah with our Principal Guest Conductor Kazuki Yamada, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius with Edward Gardener and the CBSO Chorus’ first ever performance of Handel’s Messiah with early music specialist Richard Egarr.
If that wasn’t exciting enough, we have tours to Germany and Monaco in the autumn of 2019, our annual Choral Christmas Concerts with Chorus Director Simon Halsey and a performance with the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester of the little known Russian composer Miaskowsky’s Symphony No. 6.
There has never been a more exciting time to join the CBSO Chorus, and membership is by a short audition where you will be asked to sing a short piece of music which you have prepared in advance, undertake some ear tests and sight reading. The whole audition lasts no more than 15 minutes.
If you would like to be considered for one of our tenor bursaries for the 2018-19 season you will be required to attend an audition on the 6, 7, or 13 July 2019 at the CBSO Centre.
To sign up to audition please complete an online application form and indicate that you are interested in being considered for a tenor bursary in the ‘Where did you hear about us’ box. The deadline for applications is Friday 28 June.
