We are delighted that existing Principal Guest Conductor Kazuki Yamada will also be extending his contract to 2023, meaning that both Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and Kazuki will each conduct several programmes across the 2022-2023 season.
Kazuki Yamada, Principal Guest Conductor says: 'I am so honoured to be continuing my association with the wonderful CBSO family who are so special to me. I think the CBSO has some kind of telepathy for making music, we seem to understand each other immediately. I cannot wait to resume our journey together, when I’m back on the podium with them again soon.'
A committed choral conductor, in 2019 Kazuki performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, taking the chorus on tour with him to Monte Carlo where he performed the same work with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, where he is Principal Conductor and Artistic Director.
Kazuki and Mirga are part of CBSO’s family of conductors which also includes: Associate Conductor Michael Seal, Chorus Director Simon Halsey CBE, Associate Chorus Director Julian Wilkins, Children’s Chorus Conductor Ula Weber and Associate Conductor of the CBSO Chorus David Lawrence.
