Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla extends CBSO contract

We are delighted to announce that our Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla has extended her contract with us for a further two years until summer 2021.

Since her appointment in February 2016 for an initial three years, Mirga has received global attention for her dynamic conducting style and innovative artistic projects with the CBSO, including a critically acclaimed Debussy Festival in March of this year, the largest event of its kind in the world. The Guardian recently described the CBSO as ‘on a new high’ under her direction.

Looking ahead, the orchestra will be commemorating its centenary in 2020 with a series of special artistic projects and tours led by Mirga.

Stephen Maddock OBE, CBSO Chief Executive, commented “The CBSO’s partnership with Mirga has gone from strength to strength and we are very excited about our future artistic plans and collaboration in the run up to our centenary celebrations”.

Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla added “I am very happy to be continuing my musical adventures with the wonderful CBSO family”.

The position of Music Director is generously supported by John Osborn.
