The CBSO WW1 Project is a four year programme taking place in the Perry Barr district of Birmingham.
As part of this project, students from four primary schools in the area have worked creatively with a CBSO artistic team to develop their own melodic ideas and lyrics in response to a range of different themes, including WW1 artefacts and paintings. The students’ work has then been developed by composer, Kerry Andrews, who has written one movement for each year of the project: ‘The Mud and the Sky’, ‘In this Dangerous Place’ and ‘Wires’. 2017-18 will be the final year of the project, during which the music for the fourth movement will be created as part of a large scale composition to mark the centenary of WW1.
This project has been made possible through the generous support of an anonymous donor, the City of Birmingham Orchestral Endowment Fund, the Rachel Baker Memorial Charity and the St. Thomas’ Dole Charity. We are also grateful to the Clive and Sylvia Richards Charity, principal supporters of the CBSO’s work with young people.
