CBSO Privacy Statement

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) is an Arts Charity that processes data from its customers and supporters for certain legitimate businesses purposes necessary to fulfil its aims and charitable objectives. Our promise to you is that we will be clear, honest and open in the way we use your data, only use it in ways you should reasonably expect us to, and to stop using it should you request us to, or after you cease to engage with us for a reasonable length of time. This statement sets out the ways in which CBSO uses your data and how you can hold us accountable for that.

Data collection

The CBSO is resident orchestra of Symphony Hall. When you book your ticket for a CBSO concert via THSH’s Box Office your data is passed to us. The CBSO processes audience data for certain legitimate business purposes, in order to provide you with the best experiences and most relevant information about our activities as an Arts Charity.

We collect your name, address and electronic contact details (email and phone) and use the information about your booking patterns in order to ensure you have the information you need about similar future events, ticket offers or opportunities to support our work.

Use of data

If there is any important change to your booking we will contact you. This information, alongside your purchase and/or donation history, is used to select and inform you of other relevant events or activities we think may be of interest to you, as well as opportunities to support our work as an Arts Charity.

If you do not want to receive information by post about events, offers or our fundraising activities, you have the option to change any of your contact preferences at any time by contacting unsubscribe@cbso.co.uk

Contacting you by Email

If you have provided your email address when you purchased your ticket via THSH Box Office, from time to time we will send you recommendations and ticket offers by email for similar events and opportunities to support our work. Should you wish not to receive this information you will be given the option to opt out when purchasing a ticket from THSH Box Office, and you will always have the option to unsubscribe from future emails from CBSO via a link at the bottom of the email. Contacting you by Telephone

If you have provided your telephone number when you purchased your ticket via THSH Box Office, we may use this to inform you of a cancelled or re-arranged performance, to gain your views on our service, or to talk to you about relevant opportunities to support our work as an Arts Charity. Membership

Customers joining one of our membership schemes will receive information by email relating to events and activities as a paid-for benefit of the scheme.

Package bookers

Customers purchasing a concert package will receive additional benefits of information related to concert package renewals, information about new concerts and regular CBSO Music Stand magazine.

Third Parties

The personal information that you give us will never be supplied to anyone outside City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for contact purposes without first obtaining your consent, unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it.

Research and Industry Information

With agreement about data management protocols, we do make anonymised data available to other agencies such as The Audience Agency for analysis and research purposes (for instance, comparison sales trends over time and geographical comparisons). This assists with reporting to funders and strategic planning, helping us to make better business decisions.

Data Integrity and Security

We take steps to ensure that data is accurate, complete and up to date, and we regularly run checks to review our data. If you wish to correct any inaccuracies in your data, please contact unsubscribe@cbso.co.uk

Data is only used for the purposes stated above whilst you continue to engage with us, through ticket purchases, donations, or viewing our online content. Should you cease to engage with us for a period of five years, your data will be supressed, no longer processed, and you will cease to receive communications from us.

Access to information

You have a right to see what information we hold about you via a Data Subject Access Request. You also have the right to have your data erased, rectified or the processing restricted or to object to us processing your data.  You may also ask us to provide a copy of any information provided by you to us.  Please contact CBSO Company Secretary Annmarie Wallis who will deal with your request.
