Patrick Verwer became a Trustee of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 2013, and was appointed Deputy Chair in 2015.
Patrick has been Managing Director of the Birmingham based train operator London Midland since January 2012. Before that he worked in the transportation industry in both the UK and Europe specialising in rail and airport services. London Midland operates train services throughout the heart of England connecting London, the Midlands and the North West. Over 65 million passenger journeys a year are made on London Midland services. Patrick’s team of over 2300 people manage 148 stations and operate over 1,300 services a day. London Midland has come a long way since 2012, when it was the worst performing train company in the UK. Today’s performance is the best it has been for four years and it is one of the few train companies to see customer satisfaction growing (86%) while the overall industry score is declining (80%).
Born and educated in the Netherlands, Patrick started his career in the Rotterdam Police Force rising to a senior officer level. He is married with two children splitting his time between Birmingham and his family home in Reading.
