Conductor: CBSO Children's Chorus
Marc Hall is incredibly passionate about promoting choral music for all ages and raising the profile of singing within schools and the wider community.
Marc has been Conductor of the CBSO Children’s Chorus since 2010 and regularly works elsewhere as a freelance conductor. He was a conductor in the latest series of the BBC’s ‘The Choir: Sing While You Work’ and also prepared the school choir of the award-winning documentary ‘Educating Yorkshire’ for the opening of the National Television Awards 2014. Most recently, Marc has won the Hallé Corporate Choir Competition 2014, with the work-based choir of Jerrold Holdings, a financial business in Cheshire.
Marc combines his freelance work with the role of vocal tutor and curriculum teacher for Bolton Music Service – he works in both primary and secondary schools across the authority, as well as overseeing the Bolton Music Service junior and training choirs.
Having graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2009, where he studied opera and keyboard, Marc has gone on to gain Qualified Teacher Status and more recently has completed a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, gaining a wealth of experience from some of the world’s leading choral conductors.
In past years, he was Director of Music at Bury Parish Church, Assistant Director of the Hallé Children’s Choir and Director of the Hallé Youth Training Choir.
Marc has fond memories of his early musical grounding as a chorister at St Thomas’ Church, Mellor. He was subsequently Director of Music at the church for five years, arranging and conducting concert tours in some of Europe’s most exciting religious venues. This choral experience throughout his own youth cemented Marc’s belief in the importance of providing musical – and particularly singing – opportunities for all young people.
