The prestigious Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition comes to Birmingham for its 6th edition, in partnership with the CBSO and Symphony Hall. Created in accordance with the wish of the legendary 20th century conductor and composer Evgeny Svetlanov, the competition is dedicated to discovering and supporting the next generation of outstanding conductors. Founded in 2007 and held every four years, the Competition has previously taken place in Luxembourg, Montpellier, Paris (twice), and Monte-Carlo. Over the years, it has helped launch the international careers of many conductors.

About 6th Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition

The Competition unfolds in three rounds:

3–4 September – Preliminary Round (closed session) at the CBSO Centre – 18 candidates selected
5 September – Semi-Finals (public session) at Symphony Hall – 8 semi-finalists
6 September – Finals (public session) at Symphony Hall – 4 finalists

Each performance reveals a distinct artistic voice and musical vision through a carefully chosen symphonic repertoire. At the end of the Finals, the audience at Symphony Hall will vote for the Audience Prize. More than a competition, this is a celebration of music-making, talent, and shared experience.
