Chris Loughran DL

Trustee and Chair of the CBSO Development Trust
Headshot of Christopher Loughran

Chris Loughran DL joined the CBSO Board of Trustees in 2018 and has served as Chair of the CBSO Development Trust since 2015. Following a distinguished 31-year career with the international professional services firm Deloitte, including 25 years as a Partner, he retired in 2018 after serving as Practice Senior Partner for the Midlands Region. During his career he led Deloitte's Technology Consulting practice, served on the firm's Board of Partners, and played a significant role in developing Deloitte's presence across the Midlands.

Having lived in Solihull since 1970, Chris returned to Birmingham in a professional capacity in 2010 and became closely involved in many of the region's most important civic and economic organisations. He served as Deputy Chair of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, Non-Executive Director of the West Midlands Growth Company, and High Sheriff of the West Midlands for 2018-19. He has also chaired major regional initiatives, including the Midlands Connect Steering Group, helping to support economic growth and connectivity across the region.

Chris continues to make a significant contribution to public and charitable life throughout the West Midlands. He remains a Trustee of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham, serves as Treasurer of Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Football Club and is Honorary President of BMOS Musical Theatre Company, Birmingham's oldest musical theatre company. Since 2019 he has also served as a Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands, supporting the Lord-Lieutenant in representing the Crown across the county.

Chris holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Leeds, is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, and is a Chartered Information Technology Professional. His professional background combines expertise in technology, business leadership, governance and strategic development, bringing considerable experience to the boards on which he serves.

A passionate advocate for Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, Chris has played a key role in supporting the CBSO's long-term development through his leadership of the CBSO Development Trust and his work as a Trustee. His extensive experience across business, public service and the charitable sector helps strengthen the Orchestra's governance, fundraising capability and regional impact.

Chris has been married to his wife, Jane, since 1983 and they have six grown-up children.
