Jane Fielding was a partner at international law firm Gowling WLG LLP until her retirement from the partnership in June 2023. For 13 years she served as Head of the firm's UK Employment, Labour & Equalities team, leading the delivery of employment and equality law advice both to the firm's clients and internally to the firm itself. During this time, she divided her working life between Gowling WLG's Birmingham and London offices.

Born in Hull and raised in Worcester, Jane studied Classics and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford before converting to a career in law on graduation. After qualifying, she spent four years working in London before moving to Prague as a "trailing spouse" while her husband, also a lawyer, pursued a professional opportunity there. In 2002, the family returned to Worcestershire and Jane joined Wragges (now Gowling WLG), while her husband took on the role of house husband.

Music has been a lifelong passion. Jane sang alto in her school choir and played the oboe for many years. Since retiring she has returned to singing with a local Choral Society and a small madrigal group - picking up the oboe again is a work in progress! Her connection with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra began early: for part of her childhood in Worcester, her family lived next door to Felix Kok, former Leader of the CBSO, and she frequently heard orchestral rehearsals through the dining room wall.

Jane is a Deputy Chair of the CBSO Board of Trustees, having been appointed to the role in September 2024 after serving as a trustee. She continues to act as Trustee Lead for Human Resources, serves on the Remuneration & Nominations Committee, chairs the CBSO Group Stakeholder Pension Management Committee, and is the Board's Health & Safety Champion.

Through her legal and governance experience, Jane brings significant expertise in employment, equality, people management and organisational leadership to the CBSO, helping to support the orchestra's long-term sustainability and strategic development.
