Composer, arranger and producer Rushil Ranjan is a CBSO Collaborative Artist for the 2026-27 Season. This exciting appointment is a celebration of cross-cultural creativity, deep artistic collaboration, and of our shared vision for the future of orchestral music.
Rushil Ranjan is a London-based composer, arranger and producer whose work brings together orchestral, Sufi and classical musical traditions. A self-taught and genre-defying artist, he has created music for concert performance, award-winning dance productions, and BAFTA-nominated film and television.
He is currently in his second year as Collaborative Artist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and also serves as Associate Artist at the Royal Albert Hall and Artistic Partner with Manchester Camerata.
Ranjan gained international recognition as the creator and composer of the Orchestral Qawwali Project, developed with vocalist Abi Sampa, which reimagines the devotional energy of Sufi qawwali through symphonic orchestration. The project has sold out major venues around the world including the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Toronto’s Meridian Hall, and continues to tour internationally to widespread acclaim.
Alongside his own projects, Ranjan has collaborated extensively with global icon A.R. Rahman, including sold-out performances across three consecutive nights at the Royal Albert Hall. He co-composed a major orchestral work with Rahman, commissioned by the Royal Albert Hall, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and other leading institutions, further cementing his reputation as a composer able to bridge Eastern and Western musical traditions at the highest level.
His work explores the shared emotional and spiritual connections between orchestral music, Indian classical traditions and Sufi devotional forms, creating immersive musical experiences that resonate with diverse audiences worldwide.
