During the final week in August, the orchestra and Kazuki will be stepping out of Symphony Hall and into the city, aiming to fill as many public spaces as possible with free live music.

Performances range from Beethoven and Star Wars in the Bullring and brass quintets in Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens, to dinosaur themed family shows in libraries, string quartets in pubs, and even live music from our Music Director Kazuki Yamada on the CBSO tram!

We’ll also be back under the departure boards in New Street Station to entertain commuters and offer passers-by the chance to conduct Birmingham’s orchestra.

"I am truly happy that CBSO in the City will be held. Our activities can be limited to the confines of the concert hall, and it has been my long-held dream to not just wait for audiences to come, but to jump out of the concert hall and share music with even more people. For me, this week will be a series of moments that make that dream come true. Nothing would make me happier than having as many people as possible experience the CBSO. The CBSO is coming to see you!"

At the end of the week, locals will be able to take advantage of our new ‘£1 tickets for Brummies’ offer, where (for one afternoon only) anyone with a Birmingham postcode can buy up to two tickets for our 2024-25 Season for just £1 each.

We’re hugely grateful for the generous support provided by John Osborn CBE and NBB Law which has helped to make these events possible.

CBSO in the City runs from Monday 26 August – Sunday 1 September, the full schedule of events can be found here.

More information about how you can get involved with conducting the CBSO at New Street Station will be shared soon.
