About Bringing the Light: Lantern Walk & SO Vocal Performance

Bringing the Light is a vibrant celebration of Birmingham’s rich cultural heritage, uniting communities from across the city through shared traditions of light and winter festivities. This event honours the many ways light brings people together with hope, joy, and reflection.

We’re hosting a series of workshops and events leading up to the concert on Sunday 7 December at Symphony Hall, presented by Satnam Rana.

You’re invited to join us on a lantern walk as we light up the winter afternoon with hand-made willow lanterns. It’s free and suitable for all ages, so join us at Roundhouse Birmingham and we’ll walk together along the canal to Symphony Hall to enjoy a performance by SO Vocal, the CBSO’s community choir, in the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space. The walk will be accompanied by heritage narrowboats decorated by light artist Sophie Handy.

In the evening at Symphony Hall, Satnam Rana presents a unique celebration of light, music and heritage in the heart of Birmingham. Enjoy beautiful music for sitar, full orchestra and our choruses – you’ll hear brand new commissions by Cassie Kinoshi, Roxanna Panufnik and Joan Armatrading. Buy your tickets here.

Please note, the parade will begin at 3:45pm, followed by a performance by SO Vocal at 4:15pm. Both events are free.
