Walk the dog at a hoedown in a fast machine: a dance/road trip across the USA.

Fancy a road-trip? The American landscape calls out for big cars and fast roads – or the other way round. John Adams once wrote ‘You know how it is when someone asks you to ride in a terrific sports car, and then you wish you hadn't?’ It’s easy to feel the exhilarating terror of the passenger taking a Short Ride in a Fast Machine. And Route 66 is, famously, the place to get your kicks. This concert is also a tribute to the dance: hoedowns, rumbles, mambas. We defy you to stay in your seat. Plus, join us for an hour of free craft activities before the concert!

Suitable for children aged 6+. All Family Concerts are British Sign Language interpreted.

PRE-CONCERT EVENT

Join us for a pre-concert event ahead of the afternoon's performance. More information about the event will be published closer to the time.

Adventurous & Feel-good

'Mood markers' have been carefully assigned to each concert by CBSO Music Director Kazuki Yamada, visiting soloists and conductors, orchestra members and audiences.

If you’re new to this music or wanting to introduce it to a friend or family member, we hope that these badges help both signpost you towards the concerts that are perfect for you and encourage you to try something that you might not otherwise have considered.

So, whatever you’re in the mood for this season – you’re invited to discover your perfect music mix with us.

Programme to include:

  • West Side Story, Princess and the Frog, Route 66, Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Hoedown.
