David BaMaung

Principal Viola No.3
Headshot of violist David BaMaung

David BaMaung was born in Scotland and studied with Wen Zhou Li and Jane Atkins. Prior to joining CBSO he was a member of the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera.

David has performed as Guest Principal Viola with CBSO, RSNO, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, English National Ballet, Canadian National Ballet and Scottish Ensemble and as Guest Co Principal (No.2) with the Royal Opera House, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, The Halle, RLPO and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He has performed and recorded extensively with London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia.

He is a former member of the Maxwell Quartet and plays on a fine 1850 S.A. Forster Viola.
