Richard comes from Derbyshire in England and began playing the trombone at the age of 11. He joined the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain at the age of 16 and then continued his studies under Simon Wills and Eric Crees at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During this time, he became a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra until he completed his studies in 2006. Richard then spent six years as a freelance musician before accepting the position of Principal Trombone with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, where he spent two years. After this, he left Scotland to continue his freelance career in London where he has enjoyed a varied career playing with many of the country's finest symphony and opera orchestras.
In his spare time, Richard enjoys spending time with his family, cooking and running.
