Double Basses

Aisling Reilly

Tutti Double Bass (Fixed Term)
Headshot of double bassist Aisling Reilly. Aisling is stood with her double bass.

Aisling took up the double bass at the age of 9 in her home town of Dublin, Ireland.

She first came to Birmingham in 2013 to study with Thomas Martin at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Aisling then went on to study with Tony Alcock on the Orchestral Postgraduate Course, part of which involved a side-by-side scheme with CBSO. During her studies, Aisling performed Eduard Tubin’s Double Bass Concerto with orchestra and was the first bass teacher on the ARCO Project, teaching students online in South Africa and India.

Since graduating in 2018, Aisling has performed as a freelance musician with orchestras around the UK. In 2020, Aisling started working as sub-principal double bass with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland on a short-term contract and she has recently moved back to Birmingham to work with CBSO for six months.
