Second Violins

Amy Jones

Sub-Principal Second Violin
Headshot of violinist Amy Jones

Born in Leamington Spa, Amy grew up in Northamptonshire and took up the violin aged eight. She was inspired to play by a Northants Music Service string concert in her primary school, after which she took a violin home to try and never looked back!

Amy went on to study at the Royal College of Music with Rodney Friend and Yossi Zivoni. Prior to joining the CBSO in 2006 as Tutti Second Violin she worked as a freelance musician, mainly with the RPO, BBC Concert Orchestra and Halle. Amy was promoted to Sub Principal Second Violin of the CBSO in 2011.

Her highlights from her time with the CBSO include “the Sibelius cycle with Sakari Oramo, Sibelius violin concerto with Lisa Batiashvili, anything with Janine Jansen, Mahler 2 with Andris, the Richard Strauss recordings with Andris, Strauss and Mahler Lieder with Jonas Kaufmann and Andris. ...So many to choose from!”

Outside the orchestra most of Amy’s time is taken up with her young son!
