Veronika was born and raised in Plzeň (Pilsen), a city in western Bohemia known for its world-famous beer. She began to learn the recorder after begging her parents for music lessons when she was just five years old. As her recorder teacher was the principal flute of the Pilsen Philharmonic, Veronika then naturally progressed to the flute when she was 11.
Veronika completed her undergraduate studies in the Czech republic and went on to do a Masters Degree in Professor Robert Winn’s flute class at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. Before joining the CBSO she worked in several orchestras in her homeland before joining the orchestral academy of the Prague Philharmonia which she kept taking part in simultaneously during her time in Germany.
As Principal 2nd Flute Veronika's highlights would be most of the concerts with Andris Nelsons especially the European Tour with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Hélène Grimaud which she took part in while still on trial with the orchestra.
Outside of the CBSO Veronika teaches the flute privately, performs in chamber music concerts and occasionally with BCMG. Away from music, she enjoys walks by the Birmingham canals, a good book or a movie, and spending time with her family in the Czech Republic. A passionate advocate of performance wellbeing, Veronika has been teaching yoga for musicians since 2018.
