Second Violins

Gabriel Dyker

Tutti Second Violin
Gabriel Dyker CBSO headshot

Gabriel grew up in a musical family in Brighton and started learning the violin at the age of four with Andrew Sherwood, having been inspired by two elder sisters and a house full of violins made by his great grandfather.

At 16 he continued his studies at the Purcell School with Maureen Smith and from there he went to the Royal College of Music and gained a Bmus, PGdip and MMus, continuing to study with Maureen Smith, then Yossi Zivoni, with six months at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Vienna under Stefan Kamilarov in the middle.

Gabriel spent three years leading Bloomsbury Chamber Orchestra, performing Kurt Weill's violin concerto with them during that time. He has also performed extensively with his sister Rachel Dyker in a violin/viola duo at venues across the country including St John's, Smith Square. Gabriel has played with BCMG since 2007 and became a member of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 2008.

“I love the variety of venues we perform in, from the exciting ultra-modern feel of Tokyo to the incredible history that you’re surrounded by in Vienna. To be part of those fantastic concerts all over the world and to see the reaction of different audiences is so rewarding though nothing beats a great concert in a full Symphony Hall!”
